Apple has revealed its feature-packed iPhone 16 series, which boasts new A18 chips, larger Pro displays, Camera Control, improved battery life, Apple Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, and other enhancements. Yet, some new features won’t be available right at launch.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s missing when the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro become available this week.

iPhone 16 Models and Pricing

The latest iPhone 16 lineup maintains the model names from the previous iPhone 15 series. As seen in recent generations, this series comprises four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max.

For those anticipating an iPhone “Mini” comeback, it appears Apple has discontinued that variant since the iPhone 14 series. Similarly, there is no “Ultra” model in the iPhone 16 lineup offering upgrades beyond the Pro Max version. Despite rumors, no such model has emerged in this release.

Features of iPhone 16

iPhone 16: Overview

The new series brings notable updates across all models. The base versions—iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus—retain their predecessors’ camera specs with a main camera of 48MP and an ultrawide camera of 12MP. However, the Pro models introduce a new zoom lens enhancing zoom capability from the previous generation’s specs. Specifically:

  • The Pro variants feature a main camera with a resolution of up to 48MP, an ultrawide camera 48MP, and a zoom camera of 12MP.
  • Additionally: New base models’ ultrawide sensors with autofocus and macro capabilities capture more light to improve low-light performance.

The Pro models further benefit from second-gen sensors reducing shutter lag for better action shots. They also support 4K video recording at 120fps delivering slow-motion effects. With four studio-quality microphones: capturing Spatial Audio on compatible devices is now possible.

On performance:

  • All models run on the A18 processor,
  • But: Pro variants have a more powerful A18 Pro version.
  • Base models are up to 30% faster than those of generation fifteen and 60% faster than generation twelve; while AI processes improve by around 15% in comparison to earlier chipsets via enhanced A18 Pros.

Apple Intelligence introduces AI services like converting shorthand notes into full sentences combined with functionalities such as creating AI emojis or generating images based on prompts facilitated through Siri integrations; thereby offering advanced photo searches alongside summarization capabilities recognizing onscreen content.

Significant battery improvements manifest universally across models. For example:

  • Offering up to 22 hours of video playback,
  • While longest-ever battery life (pro max variant): promises up to 33 hours via larger batteries facilitating sustained charging efficiencies by newer processors.

Among notable display upgrades: Both Pros now have expanded dimensions—6.3 inches (Pro Model) versus almost seven-inches ‘Pro-Max’. They feature advanced: ‘120Hz ProMotion displays,’ including always-on attributes versus traditional base line retaining ‘60Hz screen’.

Design-wise:

The base iPhone 16 models come with a fresh camera look & new color choices, while the Pro versions stick to a familiar design though they’re a bit bigger and heavier. They’ve added a new Camera Control button across all models. This button can handle different functions. Also, for the base models, there’s an Action button now instead of the traditional silent switch.

If you’re thinking about an upgrade, the AI features in iPhone 16 might be quite tempting, especially if you want to use the new abilities. People with newer iPhones might not see huge differences. But still, the better camera, upgraded performance, and longer battery life make the iPhone 16 a solid pick.
